Africa is the second lagrest continent in the world and is the only continent which moves from the nothern hemisphere temperate zone to the Southwrn hemisphere temperate zone.  There are 53 countries including 8 island groups. The continent is surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea to the north, the Suez Canal and the Red Sea to the northeast, the Indian Ocean to the southeast, and the Atlantic Ocean to the west.
