Algeria travellers Guide: Places To Visit

WARNING: After a long civil war tourism has slowly been returning to the region, but within recent times there has been a series of attacks in and around Algiers which have targeted foreign workers.  A high level of caution is advised if you do visit the region.

Algiers:

Algiers has been a port since Roman times, and due to the dry desert climate has some good ruins to see at Djemilia and Timgad.  Plus there are many beautiful Turkish houses and mosques, and a myriad or alleyways to explore.

Tipasa:

Situated along the cost from Algiers has exceptional Roman, Punic and Christian ruins, and a Numidian mausoleum.

Tlemcen:

was an imperial city between the 12th & 16th Centuries, here you can see the Grand Mosque, Mansourah Fortress and Almohad ramparts.  this is a particularly pleasant place to visit as due to it's location in the foothills of the Tellian Atlas it has a less stifling temperature in the middle of summer
